Darren Cronian has over 10 years experience in building travel communities. His journey began in 2005, when he created, what grew into one of the most popular travel blogs in the country, called ‘Travel Rants’. He started discussions on travel consumer issues and was quoted in national newspapers and interviewed on radio and TV. At its height, the blog received in excess of 200,000 unique visitors a month.
The next project was a travel guide for his home city of Leeds that he started up with a group of talented local writers. ‘My Life in Leeds’ attracted on average, over 100,000 unique visitors every month and within 12 months, Darren built an email list of over 10,000 subscribers.
Since 2015, he has been travelling and learning how to build an audience on YouTube, through sharing his round the world travels and experiences travelling long term. Darren is passionate about travel and sees that video marketing is a lost opportunity for many tourism businesses who are not taking advantage of the huge audience that consumes over 6 billion hours of video content every month.
About Tourism Hive
The idea behind Tourism Hive came to Darren one day after chatting with an owner of a B&B that he was staying at. They were providing an excellent experience for customers but struggled with marketing and this resulted in taking very few bookings from their website and paying a large amount of commission to third parties for bookings.
Many micro and small sized tourism businesses do not have the budget to work with an agency or employ a member of staff to work on marketing, so it usually comes down to the owners who know how to run their business but have limited experience marketing a business. Tourism Hive is a learning resource for the tourism industry and focuses on video marketing and community building.
